Then asking friends, family and possibly more importantly 'Clients' can be a useful tool in the process when deciding on what your logo should look like or business name should be.
We recently did a rebrand for a company where the brief required quite a few variations on logo options. As the name and current brand was already established, but lacked a little impact, the client wasn't totally sure a complete rebrand was essential and asked for some variations on amending what they had to freshen it up a little. However, we were also asked to provide some suggestions to a complete rebrand where everything but the company name changed just to throw into the mix.
Quite a task, but one we grasped with both hands.
The suggestions for improved and new logos we came up with were quite varied and certainly gave our client some thinking to do. They proceeded with there own market research, asked friends, family and their current clients on their thoughts and the outcome came as quite a shock to us. The consensus was to go for a complete rebrand, and after a few tweaks the chosen logo was finished.
Sometimes Business owners, managers and staff have quite vivid ideas of what their brand should look like which may not always be the best outcome. Asking people who aren't so closely involved with the business like friends and family can add some interesting input.
Also asking clients can be good practice. It gives you an insight as to how they see your company, what their thoughts are and can throw up some interesting views that could add value.
